what passive tone controls do you use? boost+tone?

i am experimenting with a modified sil. transistor boost much like the lpb-1 but with a possibility on a tiny bit of grit on the high side. i may change to a different boost circuit later, but none the less my basic logic of it all is a boost with a complicated tone stack directly after it and the volume control at the end of it all. so the EQ will be seeing full boost. with the average attenuation of 20db, i figure at the end of the circuit i will have a useable 20db of gain boost as a POSSIBILITY. my two questions.

what "complicated" tone controls can your recommend me?
(3-5 knobs) im looking for something with alot of mids.

and at the end of the circuit there is usually a preventative  DC capacitor. would i let the dc run through the tone controls and block it just before my output control? or would i basically copy the boost circuit and add the volume control later?

btw i think this is similiar to the HBE detox eq in a since that is is passive tone controls with makeup gain. i could be wrong.
but i know the HBE isnt very effective if just between the guitar and front end of the amp. its MUCH more effective if you put in after a dirt box or in an effects loop. i believe having the gain stages first help to tone controls to be more effective right because its seeing a much more usable signal level?
