which BSIAB schematic?...

i have the GGG bsiab on my breadboard at the moment, but it sounds way to thick, sounds too muffled...(using all j201's)

so i looked around and found loads of bsiab schematics that are all very different...

which is the one that has the 'best' tried n tested..permanently on your pedalboard   results..?..

If you are into hi gain you might like xbananov's "BSIAB extreme" better.



I think you can use 2n5457/58 or BF245A instead of those russian jfets.

Not really, but when it comes to jfet emulations those russian guys sure know their stuff. I've built the Fet Twin and it's an amazing sounding circuit.

yep they sure do, i heard a few clips of other russian projects that sounded very mean..and tight...ideal metal/thrash stuff..

right i have the bsiab -x on breadboard, its got much better potential than the standard bsiab2 , its nearly there...

the tone is great, and the gain is proper...but i'm getting that off-biased gating effect...hmmm...

might have to put some 100k trims on the fets...?..what dya think?...

I think the only place it would make a difference is on T5 (Q5).  Don't bother with the others as they are forming a pair of mu-amps.

i just probed it from each fet, and 4 - 5 seem to be the gating culprits..

i stuck a 100k trim on Q5 biased to 4.5-5v but it still gated ...i'll stick a 100k trim on Q4 and see how that goes..

btw, the first 1 and 2 fets outputs sounds great on their own too.....hmmmm...

@#$%ing hell, this kicks ass...got the fets sorted, this is a bad ass metal mother@#$%er..

i much prefer this to my boogie..better tone etc, its got a nice chunk to it and only 3 pots too.......my quest for a great metal/thrash pedal may be concluded...\m/     \m/

i have lots of oscillation, but hey its on breadboard right...

Cool.  Nice demo.  I had the same reaction when I built my first BSIAB - like finding the Holy Grail of OD.  I've built a dozen since then - some so tweaked they were hardly recognizable.  This has to be my favorite pedal - without exception.

cheers, yep i know what you mean about 'holy grail', ive been on this quest for years ...

i really like it, i'll try it on my marshall avt  tomorrow, see how it sounds...

probably have a few tweaks too...i hope i can get rid of any oscillation when boxing it up..

shielded in/out etc should do it...did you have any problems with that?...



i'll knock up a pcb layout for those interested, which i'm pretty sure lots of you metal nutters are..
i'm on it now....

edit: here we go...i'll post a pdf soon-ish, when ive done tweaking and built/verified it ok..

i haven't finished it yet!..its still on breadboard,

when i have it how i fancy i'll post it my final results/pcb/layout  up ok..

i would highly recommend breadboarding this beast...you won't regret it...if you like hi gain of course!...

as with most hi gainers, its a balance between getting a good chunky riffing sound, with a good lead sound too...

which imo, a lot of them lack...but its a very tweakable circuit....

ok heres what i have now...i added a mid pot...

another clip but using drop C# tuning..with varying tone...

if anyone has any ideas on a better mid scoop tone, i'll try em.. .. (tip if breadboarding this, take out C1 to avoid oscillaion ok..it cuts it off totally.) just replace after..

Nice rob its very heavy.. here's what im hearing.. too fizzy need some bass too"deep control" or just take off the tone stack and replace  with Bax control? Shove it shove it aaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrh
