baxandall eh?. as in straight tone stack calc version...?.....hmm might try it...

the gain and bite is definately better than the boogie, and no @#$%ing trim pots either :icon_rolleyes:... more tinkering.. ;)

the straight bax in te DCalculator works find . . . or maybe the Amz Presence control.. i remember installing it in a boogie and it's darn good, very responsive and can achieve those scoop mids. or just simple BMP sith switchable mids? hahahah i gonna breadboard this after my 2 projects :D

i'll use another breadboard to rig up a bax stack...and tinker with values then... i'm on it now!.. :icon_wink:

hmmmm...tried out the bax stack...quite disappointed really...the 1M bass only brings in a tiny bit of bass from 12 oclock...then a massive amount on the very last bit... :-\

not a smooth gradual bass transition at all.......thought it would be better than that..

also its made the distortion lose that thrashy edge too, it seems to have tamed it.. :-\....ill experiment further...@#$%ing tone stacks...  ::)

Were you trying it with a log bass pot or a linear bass pot?  The bass pot in the (Duncan's) tonestack calculator is a "log B" pot.  In practice, I've seen the same issue you describe.  I always use a linear pot.

Check this tonestack out.  It has a big notch and controls the treble level.  Great "old" design by Doug Hammon from when I first started hanging out here.  ;)

this is very cool :D lets try this Rob

cheers guys:

yep i used linear for tones, log for volumes...

i'll try this out today...especially the 'phat' mod version....

i'll report back later!..thanks... ;)

 ;)

i'm just reposting current experiment clips in one place ok.. ::)

1st clip..as per original schemo..

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7464107/bsiabx.mp3

2nd clip as per my redrawn added pot schemo...low c#

edit:

ok tried the 16 tonestack....is it meant to be like this?... sounds terrible...::)

this is fully ccw then fully cw...its really loud in volume ccw...then goes really quiet fully cw...turned up the volume near the end..(i know it doesn't help with mass oscillation going on.. :icon_mrgreen:)

MHHH it seems i kind'a like the first "original schemo" mmmhhh how about the marshall tone stack ? :D

P>S rob did you used linear on your Boogie tone stack? is it necessary LOG pot on the Bass tone stack?

ANOTHER PS http://sim.okawa-denshi.jp/en/TwinTCRkeisan.htm this is cool! but i dont know how to use it HAHAHAH

The Sweet 16 tone stack control should just raise the treble up and down and have a fat resonant low mid tone.  Mess with some of the cap values if your sure you have it right.  ;)

@ask: re boogie: i can't remember!...probably lin going by the general use  of lin for tone  log for vol... :-\

@wgtp: i'll give it another go, and double check my values/arrangement etc...

i just tried the SWTC with various values...its ok, but not for my ears....

@ask : looks interesting...recommend any values for it to start with?..

What tone control works will very much depend on the amp/spkr. I tuned the ST for my dark SS amp and it gave it modern sound. Will probably sound too trebly with some amps.

For another good high gain pedal try Joe D's Blackfire Preamp. Simple circuit using common npn's and sounds fantastic-like an SLO to me.

cheers doug, yeah might try that..eventually.. :icon_cool:..

.i'm just after a good one pot tone that has a good range at 12o'clock  position..

and doesn't go tinny as hell when full, or massive changes in volume...i think its asking too much for a passive i guess..

i'll persevere... ;)

I noticed the tone stack on Mark Hammer's Chaos is similar to the one on the Russian BSIAB.  I haven't tried it but will soon.

@ rob here is the link for values http://sim.okawa-denshi.jp/en/TwinTCRtool.php  if you click on the "TOOLS" look for Twin t-notch or other filters for more infos.
