I was wondering how easily this could be adapted for stompbox use as a simple looper: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102855#
Thanks!
If it ain't broke...   ...it will be soon.

have been thinking about it myself.. only downside is they're pretty crappy quality.. and there's no loopfunction (goop on the chip) so theres not much to mod or tweak..

today i found this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ISD1820-recording-playing-module-voice-Board-microphone-/260852912823?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cbc0b92b7

looks like a better quality and has a onboard looper function.. only problem so far is the input signal going through  the device.. as you'd probably like to know how you're recording sounds when recording..

Funny, in my post about a loop pedal, I didn't even think about how to make that guy loop!  :icon_redface:
The link you posted looks very interesting too.

i know this is an old post, but would those chips be good enough for something like that:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-and-Original-ISD1820P-Chip-8-20s-recording-single-repeat-recording-/160668512890?_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D5%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D4057858007496754750#ht_1444wt_1398

only 1.99 free shipping.. up till 20 s recording and works between 3 and 5 volts.. also a possibility of looping..

emmm, do you really want to reinvent the bicycle - why not to use madbeans projecet?

For the sake of inventing this could be fun project. I think my choice would be to use Atmel uC.
I just thought that the author was not aware about that project.
Some time ago I searched a lot about voice recording ICs. Unfotunatly most of them are only up to 4kHz. Many of them have problems at instant playback.

My initial post was just a spur of the moment "hey look what I just saw" without much forethought. I was actually in the middle of the Madbean looper project when I posted this. But I think most projects are always worth pursuing via alternatives methods. Heck, at least I wasn't reinventing the tube screamer!  :)

1820 has much worse input sample rate, according to the datasheet (

I'm not knocking anyone who wants to work on projects like this for fun or education, have at it with gusto. But, the price, size and functionality of something like the Ditto Looper....
