A dumpster diver friend of mine gave me a zip lok full of old TI trannys, they are probably culls from some 60's factory. The things are not marked but test as NPN's some are real high (200-250) gain with marginal leakage so I am assuming Silicon, but are in a round but squashed flat some case with crimped edges at the cbe wires. My search of the TI museum site has some Germanium in this case but no references to what I have The only TI markings are 026 r153 and non Ti's are marked 980104. They work well as subs for some 2N1304/1306 germs that I have in a  Mindbender Fuzz and a Rangemaster clone. Just curious if anyone may have leads on these things. Thanks

It's almost trivially easy to tell silicon from germanium. A forward biased germanium junction has a voltage across it of 0.15 to 0.3V, a silicon is 0.5 to 0.7V.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Thanks for that, does seem easier than trying to decipher an actual TI number. I did find out they were made 4th week 1961.
