What type of metal does EHX use for their older style sheet metal boxes?

I am curious if it's all the same stuff - The unpainted Small Stone for example, and the Black Russian Big Muff - Are they aluminium or steel?
Also I'd like to know what gauge of metal is recommended for enclosures.
I might try to bend one out for myself with my father's brake.

Thanks

The late 60s/early 70s boxes ,with the very simple black lettering, are usually aluminum with the base part of the box painted with that black paint that dries with a crinkled texture (as found on older wah pedals). The pedals mid 70s onward, with the modern EHX logo and more elaborate graphics, are steel with a laquer coat. Where the laquer gets scatched they can get rusty. The basepart of these box is also steel coated with a leather textured vinyl. Don't know about the thickness of the sheet metal. The black russians are powder coated steel.

ThankYou ! Interesting to learn a bit of background.
Does either material offer a distinct advantage?
I know that enclosures should be rugged and protected from moisture invasion,
but in your opinion is there a clearly better choice?

I have thrown a few die cast effects together, and the simplicity and durability are wonderful. I just can't let go of a fondness for that old look.
