First of all I'd like to thank many of you for the guidance/troubleshooting you've given me on my efforts so far. That said,  I'm sure that this is an old idea but I've never seen it done in practice. Would it be possible to send power to an onboard guitar effect via the ring of a TRS cable? Lets say I constructed a box that a 9v adaptor would plug into that would send power to the ring of a TRS cable and into the effects in my guitar as well as send signal to my amp? I'd like to power an analogue delay that I'm building and I don't fancy changing batteries every couple of days. Is this too insane/hazardous to pull off properly? I see that the bass guys have been wrestling with this issue for a while and have come up with this solution:http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f38/tired-buying-9-volt-batteries-719302/

What's your take? Viable or not?

Thanks!

That can work.

At plug-in, for a moment, the +9V is shorted to ground. There is a resistor which would limit current, except as-shown it is only 0.47 ohms which would pass 18 Amperes; I'd suggest 47 ohms.
