And yes, not only do *I* know about this, but my wife does too!  Which means it will actually happen.  :icon_mrgreen:

Ottawa.  My house.  Bit of a hike from Oakville, I'm afraid.

Just wanted to give a last minute push to those who may have missed seeing this.  You know how it is; once something goes to the second screen of topics/threads, it tends to be "off the radar" for us.  All it takes is one busy day here with 20 people asking for help trouble-shooting a first project or giving a layout the once-over, and BAM! you've missed something of interest to you.

We'll be getting together starting around 6PM on Saturday, though don't worry about showing up later.  No experience necessary.  Snacks available even if you have a bad credit rating.  If you're within a reasonable distance, c'mon by and meet like-minded folks.  Don't make me do all this food preparation and house-cleaning for nothing!

Drop me a PM if you're planning on coming, and I'll provide directions.

Man, I'm only 1 hour and a quarter away. It's weird how on the net, one gets the feeling that everyone MUST be a million miles away. Small world. If ever you have business in Montreal, let me know, I live on the way in Rigaud. If I'm home, stop in for a coffee.

Cheers,

I was trying to get Greg from Solid Gold FX and Mike from MJM to come.  Both were interested but couldn't take the time away.  Greg's out in the West Island, so it wouldn't be that much farther than Rigaud.  But I appreciate that, with the price of gas, the idea of a 90-minute drive in each direction for something that might only last 90 minutes itself is not something to leap at.

I hadn't realized you were that close by!  Not a lot of places to shop for parts in Rigaud, eh?  An old friend recently bought a sailboat and will dock it at Hudson.  I don't expect to be on it any time this year, but when the weather gets nice next year and I get an invite, I may well drop in on you.

At last count, we have about a dozen and a half folks coming.  Some synth people, amp builders, pedal manufacturers (looking forward to introducing Steve from Empress and Tim from Retro-Sonic to each other) and a couple of semi-regulars (Scratch, boogietube, iaresee) from here.  I hope I bought enough spring rolls and samosas!

We will be hitting the road later this morning. The week has been rainy, but not so much so as to spoil our time here. For "lakeside-cabin" country, the Muskoka area turns out to be equal to anything we have encountered in northern New York or New England...very pretty, and the resort where we have been, Cedar Grove, is rustic-comfortable and has a surprisingly good kitchen. We are looking forward to seeing all of you in Ottawa.

Steve and Judy

Well for the host, yes.  That's probably the only way people will recognize me.  :icon_wink:

It will be my honour to introduce Steve Bragg from Empress and Tim Larwill from Retro-sonic to each other.  Same corner of the city, same line of business, and they've never met.  Go figure.

We're up to around 18-20 people coming so far.   Some coming from out of town, some from across the street.  Modular synth people, amp-makers, pedal-makers, repair people.  Steve Daniels is not gonna know what hit him.  I hope I made enough salsa!

I expect there will be plenty of pix posted in the coming week.  In the meantime, I have vacuuming to do.

I wish I didn't have so much going on. It would be fun if there were more DIYers around the southern Ontario area.

Anyways if you had let it be known earlier while I could not make it I would have maybe shipped some new toys for everyone to play with at the party.

It would be neat to have a Toronto meet-up.  I'm sure theres a couple hundred DIY'ers within driving distance.

You know Mark, it's not the fact that it's 90 minutes travelling, or even that' it might last only 90 minutes, but I would have done it just to shake some hands and say "Thanks" for all that everyone has contributed here, especially some of the "big dawgs" :icon_wink:. Info that you've posted here has gotten my ass out of sling on more than one occasion  :icon_mrgreen:. Unfortunately, I work every second weekend, and this weekend being off, I absolutely have to tend to some household chores. That includes getting the Goldwing into my Dad's garage, over in Alexandria, for the winter. It's that time of year  :icon_sad:.

My door is always open though, let me know if you're going to pass through. Wishing everyone a great weekend.

Cheers,
Dino
