Velleman USB scope on ebay
$225 shipped in the USA is pretty sick. I have an extra windows laptop thats pretty useless but would be good to keep on the bench. just think about running the scope, function generator, tone stack calculator and regular calculator, notepad, internet and schematics all on one machine.

is this a good buy? does anyone know if you can run the function generator and the 2ch scope all at the same time?

Soft scope is a good choice.
"Visual Analyzer 2011" seems to be the best one. It has 2-channel scope, 2-channel multi-functional oscillator and more.
Download is in the link below. It's free.

I know jack about this particular scope, but if you can't use both channels and the signal generator at the same time, for that price, I'd go something else or another setup that will give you that capability.  There's alot of talk around here in old threads on digital scopes, some good opinions have been shared.

I'm using this scope right now ...you can use 2 channels and the waveform generator at the same tim (not that I do, but I just checked...disclaimer, by checking, I turned on the scope waveform gernerator & plugged the one scope lead I had handy into both channels - both channels were active & could scope the waveform generator output). It's a reasonable scope...my one gripe is that the main window could do with being larger - it can be detached from the main scope app via a 'big screen' option button, which makes it larger - but it could still do with being larger still.

You can download the scope app...it lets you run in demo mode (no hardware needed) ...you'll get a good feel for it that way.

The company are *very* reactive/responsive to user feeedback...see my initial musings thread about this scope on their user froum here...

Hi All, Just for the fun and nothing else here, this one is not Digital, nor Solid State, it's an All Tube Scope from The French Navy (1964) - Its main interest is its ability to widthstand 50 Volts per division and its resistance to abuse - which I admit is quite useless for effect pedals, but not for tube amps...

A+!

:o :icon_eek: :icon_surprised:

neither the amp or the scope are on fire

Yes. No fire, everything is alive and well... Both were designed for, in fact.

I have used a DSO 2090 to tune my Gristleizer. It was a loaner from work, but I quickly realized how useful a scope can be. I'm a noob at this stuff, but I just bought one off EBay for future projects. It's a great piece of kit.

Maybe I should have gone for this one instead, considering the built in function generator. Anywho, I consider a scope, even for the novice like me, a piece of essential kit now. As important as a good DMM. This one looks like a good deal to me.

Most people will tell you to search for an analog low frequency first.

If you do so, this is probably the most realist advice I've read anywhere (not only for ebay buys).

You can buy a new Instek (Taiwanese) for 350$ with a three year warranty.  Higher quality than a Chinese scope (no smd in there).  Technical support about anywhere...   Take a look at the B&K ones also.  I think it's the kind of scopes that high schools buy these days.

If you buy used, try to bring with you someone who (really) know scopes.  You'll be less likely to be scammed.

I had the Hantek DS0-2150 (same brand as the DSO 2090), before selling it & buying the velleman instead. I actually preffered the look & feel of the Hantek  (it was more akin to an old analog scope!) ....but the Velleman walks all over it for functionailty & support.
