Yes , i've done an entire pedal drilling before but that time was on my school's bench drill and i already am finished with that four knob rat-ing school already  :icon_mrgreen:
Enough with the crap .
What sizes do you guys use ? ( 16mm pots , 1/4" jacks , chassis power jacks , small toggle switches , footswitches )
Because i'm buying cheap step bits which i think i can throw away soon after i used it , it's only 7$  :icon_lol:

If you plan to do much electronics in the future, you owe it to yourself to get this tool. http://www.harborfreight.com/6-inch-digital-caliper-47257.html

+1 on the vernier, and a comprehensive set of drill bits. Digital vernier from my local hardware store, 10$. I use a drill bit set that I picked up several years ago for 50$ at Princess in Ottawa. Has fractional, lettered, and numerical bits, (100+ bits!) all in one metal case. I use a chart like this to convert my decimal to bit size;

So, vernier + decent set of bits + a chart = perfect hole.

Whether your hole is in the right place? Sorry bud, you're on your own there  :icon_rolleyes:

I have a entire HSS bit set from my dad whom i take his "off-day" work now , drilling stuff and fixing up things .  :icon_twisted:
I will have to try to find a digital vernier , or else , i could always use a normal vernier  :icon_mrgreen:

i have full metric and standard drill sets but i usually just end up using a step bit.

Sorry - I don't know where "here" is. But I do know some places are quite expensive for most everything.

Use the step drill.

   The 'next' size [included in all sizes of stepped bit except it's largest size] can be used to remove burrs from 'punch-in' or 'blow-out' where the bit enters/exits and there's no supporting metal.
  Post champhoring the correct hole size makes cleaner finish so the threads go through easier, the washer/nut and potcase seat flatly so the threads wedge all the way around the shaft, preventing thread damage.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Some sizes are metric and won't be matched with imperial, and some are the other way.

I use metric stepped drill bits and they do just about everything. They overdrill the audio jack holes a tiny bit but that gives me a fraction to play if i miss-align them.

However, I need either a 13mm drill or the last size on my imperial unibit to do DC sockets. And there's other funny ones...

So there's no ONE tool or tool set for me.
