SHO clone problem

I just built a SHO clone I have built a few of these but for some reason It doesnt have any overdrive just a volume boost.... It has a crackle sound when i turn the knob but No overdrive/gain... any ideas i have a few different bs170 chips but no change. this is running off wall power. any ideas??? ???

my guess is that you wired it incorrectly, have a bad component or a bad connection/short...

honestly, you need to give a bit more info for an educated guess

search the forum for what the transistor voltages should be.

the funny part about it is I built 2 vero layouts at the same time and have a both are just acting like clean boost. but the one i use all the time and built 6 months ago sounds right... So  I opened up  the working one and compared it to the two semi working one and there The same. I went over all my connections and every is good.... i'll have to check the reading on the bs170's

So this is what I figured out. It seems for some reason the SHO I built 6mounts a go has some drive to it. But the new one I built dont. They work great but just don't have the grit.
