Beautiful!  I'm sure she'll like it.  I like how you can play around with the timing to get different colors on two or more LEDs simultanously.
Congratulations.

Tacoboy

I love it!
Are they auto-changing rgb-leds?
Let's have phun!

Govmnt_Lacky

A noble and beautiful effort Rob  ;)

I am sure she will LOVE it!  :)

cheers guys!... :)

yeah they are auto changing ones out of some dodgy pound shop crap!...

it can have all 7  on in any order etc.....i like it too...might have to make an audio one too for myself.. :icon_cool:

i looked around for disabled kids toys, but they take the piss on price for such simple stuff...the @#$%ers.. ???

Rob,

You've got a heart the size of a bus man! That's beautiful.

I tip my hat to you sir.

Actually, I just had a thought. Maybe if you strapped a small vibrator motor inside, like one out of a pager, it would give it an added tactile dimension.

Good on ya Santa!

At low enough frequencies, you could possibly make it so notes can be felt through the casing by the deaf.  I wonder if you could feel the difference between major/minor chords, etc.
I made the transistor angry.

markeebee

Mate, that is absolutely lovely.

Mrs Bee works as a sign-language interpreter. I showed her your video, and now she wants me to make one for the deaf schoolkids she works with.

I'm really certain it'll be a hit with your little 'un.

And if you do make one with a vibro motor in, it'll probably be a hit with Mrs Bee too.  :icon_redface:

Brilliant Rob!

An oxymoron - clean transistor boost.

That's awsome Rob. You kick A :icon_twisted: :icon_twisted:. My brother has downs and its really hard to find something  that will keep his intrest as far as toys go. The only thing that will keep his intrest is the phone book. He'll spend hours looking thru it. I don't know what it is about the phone book but he loves it.
Again, Nice job Rob.

'mark, great, as long as it brings a little happiness into some little souls life....good on ya missus man, a noble job indeed.....  as for the vibe version.......erm........i'd never see my missus again...... :icon_eek:
note;used 1  220ohm straight after battery-switch....for max brightness.. ;)

'rick, yeah they suck big time....toys 'r' @#$%s.   :)

'paully, its funny what those dudes get into eh....and it puts life into perspective, when we find ourselves moaning about inane stuff too....good on him man, all the best ...

cheers guys. 8)

To add vibration, probably the cheapest way would be to find a used playstation controller and take both motors out of it.

alparent

Great idea!

I have a perfectly normal/healthy 8 year old boy (greatfull for him every day) that would just go bananas over something like this!

I was thinking what to do with my 20,000 rpm motor  :icon_mrgreen: ( It's mad , it draws 3Amps @ full load )

How about using the Platstation controller to replace the buttons altogether?  I mean have a light box that the controller is wired into and you "play" the lights with the contoller.  Then the child holds the controller and has access to all the buttons and joysticks with each one controlling a light.  The controller should just be a bunch of switches and pots, so it may work.

this is such a nice idea!

one consideration If you were making it for a very young child I would use tamper proof external components like buttons with the nut on the inside

this is inspirational a whole range of really great light and sound toys could be made with tilt switches LFOs and sequencers

I would like to see a fully fledged light organ with an 8x8 grid of multi coloured leds that could be played with a grid of pressure switches (pressure changing clour) a sequencer and an lfo

you could even have the voltage control output to control various sound units, maybe a module for each sense

a wooden cube with an low frequency oscillator and traducer (or little speaker with the paper cone removed) connected to the inside surface would make a great toy the oscillator frequency could be controlled by an LDR mounted behind a safe plastic window or some kind of resistive tilt switch. as you turned it it would pulsate at different frequencies

this might give you some good inspirations for future developments

I just wanted to add my grandfather is a violin maker and he made me a small stringed box with a sound hole when I was about 3 I still have it along with a dulcimer and it was one of the things that started me of being interested in music and creativity, so who knows where this might lead her interests

great work
easyface, phase 90,many fuzz faces, feedback looper, tremulus lune and so on soon to be ADA!
