1K or less sucks all the gain out, it quits.

As the bear said: you can try smaller caps. Put the pot in the middle, change caps until almost happy, then fine-turn the pot. For "some faster" his 0.68u suggestion is spot-on. For obscene racket, try 0.05u (audio rate intermodulation jibber).

That's the 1-pot compromise. It works a lot better if you have a 3-gang pot and vary all three resistors the same. 10:1 or more ratio becomes possible.

However most musicians find that the "useful" trem rates are something like 7Hz to 14Hz, a 2:1 range. Slower just sounds like you are getting tired, and faster makes ugly beats with the music. Yes, your music is not church-organ nor even surf-rock, and you may find uses for other rates. Just saying that the "conventional" trem rates are done with by varying one resistor in a 3-RC network because that gives a commonly accepted range at a very good price.
