Yeah i saw a soldering pot that works well at least , the reviewer's unit hasn't gone bust .
It costs $15.60 and was wondering ...

Is it actually worth it to get one and tin all the wires or just , pointless ?  :icon_mrgreen:

Not something I would normally even think about buying, but for that price it might be nice if you have to tin a bunch of wires.

I would be leery of getting one due to the danger - at some point, I would expect to tip it over on myself or stick a finger in it.  Even if these are remote possibilities, the damage would be so severe that the risk is not worthwhile.  There are safer ways to do the things a solder pot does even if they involve more effort.  And a solder pot does not add flux - you have to do that yourself.  I have seen them used as production equipment where getting a set of wires tinned ten seconds faster is meaningful.  Not many people on this board are in this position.

Ahh come on, are you telling me that you don't want to be called Leadfinger or Leadbelly?  Of course if might really hurt to get it on your zeppelin, but it would make for a cool nickname ;D

edit: cool, not cook

Well the risks on my worktable is unforeseen , but the thing is ,
do i really have a permanent use for it or might as well think it's pointless ?
Well anyway , i am having a crisis over it's price and it's functionality .
It's just ... some soldering irons ( yes , IRONS ! ) cost more then that .

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

DavenPaget

You nailed it , but it's fantastically expensive .

Price has not changed in 20 years.

The only stripper which works better than a lighter and my thumb-nail.

It is one tool that I do NOT regret spending for.

(Not good for Teflon or asbestos.) (yes, I've worked asbestos wire).

I use this one: http://www.drillspot.com/products/526826/ok_industries_st-550_adjustable_wire_stripper  ::)
Strips wires incredibly fast and accurate... Using it for almost 15 years now, works like charm  :P
Let's have phun!

I thought its purpose was easy desoldering of larger parts?

DavenPaget

Well i don't think you can desolder larger parts that way unless you had a LARGE soldering pot .
I believe it's for tinning parts .
