My Homemade Multi Effects Pedal

Here is my homemade multi effects pedal, its put together using five general guitar gadgets pedals wired together internally, all runs off 9v (I use a 1amp rated power supply) the effects in order are all clones, Dan Armstrong orange squeezer compressor, DoD 440 envelope filter, modified tube screamer, green ringer octave up and pt-80 delay. All true bypass. Different colour led for each effect so you know what's on in dim light, orange for compressor, white for filter, red for tube screamer, green for octave and blue for delay. All in a custom made enclosure and painted with fiat yellow and ford blue.

I know it looks a bit Fisher Price but I like that! Part of its charm!!

Thanks guys, the box is 275mm wide by 175mm high and 65mm deep. Sorry I don't have a tape to measure it in inches. I think 50mm is two inches if anyone wants to do the math.

Oh I apologise for the marker markings, a sharpie to be exact. Ha ha. I was going to stencil all the writing but I am not very experienced with that and I could not get it to print out the size I wanted. I first made a template of the box then scanned it in. Then printed the template off to check if it was still the right size and it was. Its the next step that I had a problem with, I copied it into Microsoft paint and just added text to the template and was planning on cutting them out with a blade. But the image was now smaller when I printed it and I couldn't figure it out so that broke the camels back and I got the sharpie out. I didn't realise this forum was full of such beautiful looking pedals. I would love to get into etching or find out a good method of creating a stencil.

Oh but the box is laquered after the sharpie was put on.

If you want to do anything serious, Paint is absolutely useless - try CorelDRAW or Inkscape or something

+1 on inkscape....free too...no jagged edges on text, circles etc...perfect for pedal design stuff!!!...

edit: i'd have to etch that......it'd look cool...

Thanks, I will check out inkscape. I would love to etch it but I wouldn't know where to start. I really want to etch it now though, gonna take me a while to research it though and get good enough at it to confidently do it. I would get the paint off this easy enough I think.

On the subject of etching, my understanding of it is you coat the metal in a substance and then scrape your design into this substance and then dip it in ferrec chloride. What is the masking substance you guys wound use? Or is there a different way?

I'm dead set on improving the look of this now, or maybe make another.

the substance is laser toner ink....thats what everyone uses for pcb's/ and etching boxes etc........some use pnp blue too..

but you can just print the bits you want to etch/ iron on...then hand paint the areas you don't want etched...so you don't use loads of pricey toner...

That is a great tutorial. Been looking around online and I am going to get some press n peel sheets because they are the perfect size to do a box the same as the one I have here. They are 11 x 8.5 inches which is more than I need.

Gonna use press n peel because I want it to be as painless as possible, it is a big enclosure.

One question though, with the press n peel which part gets etched? the printed bit or the non printed bit??

I *think* the non printed bit gets and etched and the printed part is safe. I've never done it, but that's what makes sense to me

Yes - the 'black' or printed areas are protected by the toner and the 'white' or unprinted areas are exposed to the etchant.

I have already started my own multieffects project and hope to have it done in about 40-50 days. The hardest part is to get a suitable enclosure..........Hammond has these 1456 series boxes which look great but have the funny vent holes............or the 1444 series, but i fear they are too thin..............
