I just built a Ge tonebender Mk II and though ithe tone is very good, there's a bad crackling sound and a lot more white noise than in my prior builds.  I thought it might have been a bad volume pot but I replaced it and the problem is still there.  Any thoughts?

you're not giving much info....but that can happen with a bad connection or bad transistor

I think it was indeed a bad transistor.  I swapped out the set I had with another one and the thing sounds great now.

I had the same experience.    Bought a new set from smallbear and it sounds great now.
