knob bushings - not a euphemism

Anyone know where to buy some bushings and set screws for standard 1/4" knobs (knurled or not)? I've tried searching on google and eBay, but either I haven't honed in on the right combination of search terms or they're not for sale. I mostly find pot adapter bushings and ferrules for guitar tuning machines. I've found these, but the 'inner diameter" is listed as 5.4mm, not 6mm. Also, it's hard to tell if they're plastic or metal; I want metal. Any advice?
My plan is to drill my own knobs and glue the bushing inside. The set screw seems harder; I've never tried to thread something. Any advice?
Thanks for your time

The most success I ever had was buying cheap knobs with brass inserts and cracking the knob from around them.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

That's brilliant! I seriously doubt I could find bushings for much cheaper than that anyway, since I won't be buying a million or anything.

I've used brass rod to make an 1/8" - 1/4" adapter bushing. If you have the tools easy enough to do, ie. drill press and 6/32 tap, but the easiest way would be like R.G. suggested.
