so i bought an amp of craigslist today and played it at dudes house and it worked great.  brought it home and jammed on it for an hour or so, turned it off, turned it back on a lil while later to show my girlfriend and it was still working fine.  went to plug my effects chain into it, and its not working.  i changed chords, plugged straight into it, and no success.  plugged my rig into my old amp and it works fine still.

its a 10w solid state amp, what should i be checking?  i pulled the pcb out of it but nothing looks burnt up or anything.

any help would be great.  its a 10w orange crush if that helps at all.

Same thing as you'd check with an effect that is not working. Check the power supply to see that it is providing the correct voltage to the unit. Then measure the DC conditions on all the parts, after finding a schematic of the unit. Given that it quit suddenly, it may be a bad contact or broken wire. Perhaps something picked that moment to overload and die, but the chances are against it.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.
