Pedal to power EMGs.

On the EMG website, they sell a pedal that powers your pickups through a balanced 1/4 inch cable, thus eliminating the need to have a battery wired in your guitar. I can't seem to find a schematic anywhere... I have read a couple forums on the topic but have yet to see if it works. My question is if I am doing this correctly. I would have a balanced jack running positive 9v through the ring of the cable to my guitar and ground the sleeve. Then a mono jack running to my effects/amp. both jacks would be connected tip to tip and sleeve to sleeve. I also have a simple two way switch so I can cut the power before I plug my guitar in so it doesn't short out. Any advice?

Maybe this is what you're looking for...[just as a disclaimer] it is entirely possible that I'm an idiot....so...I hope this helps. :icon_mrgreen:

Composers shouldn't think too much - it interferes with their plagiarism.

The hardest part will be remembering to cut the power every time you plug/unplug cables.  Actually it would be good to just admit the fact that you will NOT remember to do this every time and instead engineer a solution that makes it impossible to short 9V to either ground or signal.  Use an XLR cable between guitar and the external power supply instead of TRS: problem solved.

Or use a current-limited power supply.  Even a series resistor would help, since it will generally be a very brief short circuit situation.

Remember that you will also have to short the on-board battery clip for this to work.
