I've been schooled by him at least a couple times, to my initial frustration... and eventual gratitude.   ;D

Ditto except for me it was always gratitude.

space_ryerson

Likewise, I really appreciate his posts. He's generously helped me out a few times now. I really appreciate his patience in helping with something that is so clearly basic to him, yet difficult for me. I don't know if it's just me, but I also see a lot of humor in his posts.

Greenmachine

Thanks for helping me to fix my pedal too.  Obliged.

LucifersTrip

...and don't forget the excellent pics he creates, altering the OP's original and adding additional notes...and he is one of the only ones that has helped with mathematical calculations regarding expected voltages in circuits...a big help.   thanx again

QuoteI try to make a habit of reading *anything* with one of the 'old school' names in the 'last posted' column.

Keep it down lads, we might scare him off  :) but yeah I completely agree with what everyone's said.

The best way to keep people like that around is to make this place somewhere where they want to come to. So good job guys and thanks to the awesome guys that come to this forum!!!!!!

ricothetroll

+1 for me too !
I learnt a lot from his posts and answers, here and also at groupdiy.com where he also contributes a lot. Paul, you should write books ! 1000 thanx for taking time to share your knowledge.

For some reason, I read more posts from R.G. but there is no way I can disagree with anything in this thread (except D'astros suasages ;) ).

Definitely agreed. It's nice to have folks like PRR, R.G., Mark Hammer, and anyone else I'm missing that has so much knowledge and is happy to share it. If you go to certain recording forums you get nothing but bad attitudes and ego from people who have done nothing in their careers to justify it.

Thanks, guys!

I agree...They've always helped me with my questions and doubts in one way or another.....This is the best forum thanks to guys like PRR, R.G., Mark Hammer, and a few others...Thanks again guys!

Cliff Schecht

PRR used to come around the Ampgarage with some very informative posts regarding tube makers (old and new) as well as tube tech. He's an incredibly knowledgeable guy and you guys should consider yourselves lucky that he trolls your forum (meant light-heatedly!). I wish he would come back around Ampgarage more. :icon_wink:

I'm always glad to come back to this forum and see that there is still a lot of familiar faces around. While for the past few years I have been building guitar amps like crazy (started gigging with just guitar-->cord-->amp), I recently reverted back to running a completely clean amp and using pedals for my sounds. My pedalboard is already back up to 9 or 10 pedals. I missed stomping on stuff during part changes in a song!!

Mark Hammer

Nice to see you back Cliff.  Your own  contributions have been justifiably valued here.

Cliff Schecht

Hey Mark! I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things and contribute back to this forum a fraction of what it has given me. I started building effects and joined this forum while still in high school and am now darned near finished with an MSEE as well as having a few years industry experience now. The practical analog (and digital) knowledge that I gained from this forum during my budding years of learning electronics have proven invaluable and I owe yourself, R.G. and many others thanks for sharing the knowledge that they have.

Funny enough my experience with tube amps and switching power supplies has really helped me find jobs/internships over the past few summers. I most recently was working on an IC design that was meant to turn 3V into 1000V-3000V using on-chip switches (rated at 100V). The end application was a power supply for a gel that jerks around when you pulse it with HV, specifically meant to replace the buzzers in your cellphones with more realistic feedback. For working at a massive semiconductor company this was a pretty special project!

Also I've been digging through my PCB boneyards and picking through the boards that are salvageable. One of the boards I found was a Chaos pedal that I built many moons ago but could never get to work right. I probably won't salvage this PCB because the layout could use a lot of shrinking (I am of the mindset that most any boost/OD should fit in a 1590B) but I might hook some wires up to it and see if it works. I'm getting tired building the same TS-808 clone (I found 4 TS's that I've etched in the past, now in various states of construction) and would like something new to stomp on.
