Loop Pedal & Amp Channel Switch

Hey guys,

I want a switch and loop pedal that consists of the following:

I want to be able to hit one single footswitch that both changes the channel on my amp and switches from loop A to loop B. Basically so that I can have an effects loop for my clean channel and one for my dirty channel. I'm not sure if a 3/4 pole switch would be capable of handling all those switches, and it's been a long time since I made a pedal myself.

Does anybody know of a design that's already available that would let me do this?

Thanks,

It can be done, if you amplifier uses a latching footswitch.  It it's momentary, then you can't go the usual True bybass route for your loop switching, you have to go electronic.

If it is latching, you could do it with a 3pdt- although you may need a 4pdt to use an LED.

relays, CMOS, wires.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

My amp is a traditional latching switch, so that's not an issue. The amp also supplies about 7v down the switch cable that can be used for an LED. I dont know if this could be utilised to run an active circuit without batteries?

I want to avoid the headache of any relays/cmos if at all possible...

I asked a pedal builder if he could make one for me and said that the unit would need to be active to achieve all the switching and mentioned that pre-amps would be required?

I had a play with some ideas, and I think I may be able to do it with a 4pdt or two switches next to each other so they can be pressed simultaneously...

Would something like this work? Or would it cause issues with grounding/pops etc... I'm utilising the 7v from the amp to light the LED and change the amp channel. As per this UG thread. I couldnt see the need for a DPDT or a stereo jack socket so went with mono and just used the one switch.

This is my idea. Excuse the terrible circuit diagram.

Thanks very much for all your help so far.

I'm sure you don't need that many poles - just use a 3PDT.

If the switch pins are:
123
456
789

Pins 1 and 4 are your amp footswitch/resistor+LED parallel combination
1 = Footswitch 0V
2 = Loop A send
3 = Loop A return
4 = Footswitch 7V
5 = Input
6 = Output
8 = Loop B send
9 = Loop B return

I expect it would be best to keep Footswitch 0V and audio ground seperate.

Thanks for that. Dont know how I missed that.

How would I go about keeping the audio and channel switch grounds separate? All the sleeves will ground through the enclosure wont they?

Use a plastic socket for the footswitch lead.

Ah, thanks! DOH *slaps head* I learnt so much on here back in 2007/2008 and I've forgotten it all!

Think I've got some rubber gromets hanging around somewhere actually. They should work to isolate the footswitch socket.

Thanks again!
