i am looking for a schematic for the 4 knob version and also if anyone has some info on the transistor gains? thanks!

Does it differ that much from the old schematic with added 100k log pot at the output?
As far as I know coloursound used different transistors through time and changed biasing resistors values amng the tranny changes.
I've built several units based on THIS schematic using layout from Aarons forum. This pedal sounds great if made with adequate trannies (I built my first unit with 2n2222 and didn't even bother to box it - it sounded rubbish. Few years later reworded it with BC109C - difference was like day and night)
I don't really believe that colorsound picked trannies  based on hFe - may be they just didn't use extremely low and extremely hi ones. Then again - this is just my opinion.
I am aware of the fuzz face tranny cult. This units uses 4 trannies - this would be so much harder to find "the correct" hfe values knowing that these units were produced with different types of transistors.
Hope this helps at all.

Thanks for the link!
You suggest a pot. at the output as volume control, right?

I understand that back in the days no one picked the transistors... however this gives room for large variations in tone, very large if there is no biasing at all... anything you did with this regard?

Yes - I use a 100k log pot at the output as a volume control. Don't see any problems with that.
I didn't do anything regarding biasing the transistors. I used the same type of trannies in all my overdrivers (BC109C).  Voltages were about the same and I was quite happy with the tone. The other thing I changed (the first being the volume pot) is those electrolytic caps.  10uF metal film cap would be huge but if you think logically - there is no need for such large capacitance. I used 2.2uF metal film caps instead of all electrolytics for one of my builds and that is my favourite one.
