Hey you all. I started making my 2nd batch of effects and this time I wanted to do everything soldered to the PCB (jacks, bypass switch, pots, led etc.) just like modern MXR pedals are. http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb243/cbriere36/mxr_distIII_top2.jpg

I started with an overdrive and a BSIABII, both in 1590B enclosures, and used this components:
- Input and output Jacks:

- 3PDT Switch:

- DC conector:

- Pots:

My intention with this post is to collect these types of layouts of most popular effects (overdrives, bsiab, phase 90, dist+ etc...)

I'll start with the BSIABII

Here's the layout. http://i987.photobucket.com/albums/ae352/ChanchoPanchoChile/Baconatorlayout.jpg
layout with components: http://i987.photobucket.com/albums/ae352/ChanchoPanchoChile/BaconatorComponents.jpg
and the schematic which I based components numeration: http://gaussmarkov.net/layouts/bsiab2/bsiab2-schem.png

any comments are welcome. If you're interested I'll post the overdrive.
If you have anything close to this please comment.

Are you drilling the enclosure yourself? I don't think I could drill accurately enough with my drill press to place holes on four different surfaces of the enclosure and have everything line up perfectly. Just my 2 cents.

If you have rear mounted jacks, you only have to worry about 2 surfaces.
Designing a PCB with everything mounted on it can sometimes be a pain though.

I hand drill all my enclosures with an 18volt dewalt. I use Rg's paper templates that I tape on the enclosure. I've made pedals in a 1590 that have 5 sides drilled with all pcb mounted components. It has ALWAYS lined up cause I was careful.

With board mounted pots, it can be helpful to premount the pots to the box, align the board and then solder. If you presolder the pots, they might not align well to drilled holes.

I etched both effects, so in the design I included aome marks to drill the holes.

What software are you using for the layouts?

I'm using MS Paint and Photoshop. I know that there's a DIY layout creator but there are some things I couldn't do there.

You're right. My very first pedal with mounted pots I soldered them before I try to ensemble everything in the enclosure. Pots didn't align at all
and I ended screwing up the whole board because of mechanical stress by bending the pots to fit the holes. In the next pedal I put the pots before soldering. It turned out OK!
