All this talk about the world ending, don't you know we have a competition here? Surely the world won't end until we know who won!

This is my entry.

I did a little thinking and got to the conclusion that the end of the world must be the same as the edge of the world.

Of course the viking theme lead to the Norse mythology and Rangarök. The in and out are therefore designated "Fimbulwinter" and "Ragnarök" (Fimbulwinter being the time that precedes Ragnarök). The Blood, Sweat, Toil and Tears are of course another reference to a time when I'm sure many thought the (or at least their) world would end.

Mandatory gut shot.

The led and pots are board mounted "reverse side".

Edit: It is of course a Big Muff, lets face it, isn't that just what you'd want to play with when the world ends?

To elaborate more on the inspiration of the Echo Station and the Lost theme... it's all started with me wanting to use the hexigon shaped Hammond enclosure. I don't think I've seen a build with this enclosure on the pictures thread yet.

Anyways, for anyone not familiar with the show LOST, the Dharma Initiative was a secretive research group that set up various science stations across the island. The initiative, and each one of the research stations has a variation on a hexigon logo:

This layout gave me the idea to use the rectangular blocks for Labels, with controls placed on the sides. The Hammond box is much better than the cheaper versions... very flat and easier to iron on for the etch. I use acryllic model paints for painting in etch work.

The Tempo and Scale LCD indications were surprisingly easy to get working once I finally got the LCD communicating with the AVR. The Taptation is already sending out a clean square wave for the LED indicators, and I just pulled those signals into my AVR and used a timer to count the period between pulses. The Echo Station has way more AVR computing power than it needs right now... if I get better at programming, it would be nice to consolidate the tap tempo, discrete I/O and LCD interface all onto one processor.

Babelfish demo, it can be programmed with more "normal" effects if that's what you want, but where's the fun in that.
