loud, jfet booster

my first post:
can anyone explain why this is so LOUD without any of the typical fuzzy/screaming/stuttering distortion?

It's supposed to be loud - it's a booster! You might want to put a volume control on the end.

It's not fuzzy because there aren't any clipping diodes, which would also limit the signal and make it less loud.

Pls note also: there's only ONE gain stage since the second stage is unity gain follower.

Whilst it looks like one, I don't think it is....it looks like a boost to me.

without the j177 it's not even close to that loud
