Yes, try different transistors, socketing is good. That said, gus and i independantly found the motorola 2n2222 to be especially good in this circ. Mine are old metal can motorolas, pretty sure gus using same.

Thanks, Joe. I'll put a socket in and try what I find in my junkbox.

lol...    Alas, I know you must covet them immensely. I will undoubtedly order a mojo infusion kit for my future greenies so I too can be held in the high esteem of my peers and reap the to-die-for tone that I so desire. Or maybe I'll just drop by the local radio shack and see what girl there tries to sell me. I fully intend to impress her with my NPN Boost V2 build!

or you could just order them from futurelec , by the time they arrive , they will actually have achieved antique status = mojo .

plus you dont have to worry about cloners cause all the ink has faded well past legibility by that time .

next time i order i want to see if they will sell me a large chunk of coal .

Could someone explain the part of the schematic with the two 47k resistors, the 120k resistor, and the 0.47uF cap...? Don't exactly get what's going on there...

Wow. I cant believe its been 4 years since I built my NPN Boost!

I haven't built any pedals for a long time now and want to get back into it. So in recent days Ive been going back over many of the web sites and forums that I had used and been active in my first time around. Trying to re-learn much of what I have forgotten over the years, unfortunately. But when I ran across this thread I just had to take a moment to tell you all that my NPN Boost is still rockin' and is one of my favorite pedals by far. It has performed flawlessly all these many years, never giving me a single moment of grief. I only wish all my gear was so reliable!

Thank you, Gus, for sharing this awesome pedal with us. I dont know how I ever got along without it!  :D
