just found this while searching for gut shots of the original smokey amp

seems pretty cool! doubt the batteries last long, but one could always run it off a wall wart if need be

Whether that can be used as a guitar amplifier do not know actually. Although I think the sound is out tentatively, I think somewhat due to lack of gain, maximum output is also insufficient. Etc., ... so I don't know whether it can be used as guitar AMP or not. I think sound will come out from its loud speaker, but its gain and maximum audio output are not sufficient as guitar AMP. B voltage should be more than 60V, and voltage amp should be consists of 2-stages, etc, to use as guitar AMP, some improvements are needed.

looks interesting tho, thanks for the link. reminds me of the valvecaster - some peeps have fed those into ruby style amps, often with a jfet front end, with positively reported results.

The 1S5 and 3S4 tubes are both intended for battery usage. I'm sure battery life would be reasonable. It would probably sound pretty dark though. You would probably want to add some type of transistor boost to the circuit to add some decent gain to the signal. I have a battery-operated tube-stereo that uses these type of tubes, and I found when trying to run a guitar through it, I pretty much had to use a boost pedal (an LPB-1) with it.
