Beginner with a problem

Hello everyone!

I recently got interested in building my own pedals, after successfully soldering together the "confidence booster" kit from byoc.  I browsed around, trying to find good projects to try, when I came across Beavis Audio Research's "Beavis Board".  I thought to myself, "That's a great idea!" and they kindly have instructions on how to wire your own breakout box for use in powering your breadboards, and testing your circuits.  Here's the link:

Now, I got all the parts, drilled out the box, mounted everything, and wired everything, but I'm starting to get frustrated because I can't seem to get it to work.  For your kind reference, here are a couple of pictures of it in its current state:

So what happens when I hook it up/plug it in?  Well, in bypass mode, it works exactly as it should, my guitar comes through clearly.  When I switch it on, though, I get a MASSIVE volume drop.  Like, barely audible.  The "Sag" knob doesn't seem to do anything at all.  The only things that seem to work properly are that the LED comes on, and it successfully transfers voltage to my breadboards.  Now, I can't be certain that it isn't the circuit I'm trying to test causing the problem, but I've been through that 3 or 4 times, and I'm positive that I have everything hooked up properly.  Here's the circuit I'm trying:

Now, as I said, I'm positive the circuit is hooked up properly.  The only "issues" with it are that I don't have the exact diode (but it does say that experimenting with different diode types will yield different sounds) and that some of the jumper wires are really long...  Otherwise, that circuit is hooked up exactly as shown on my breadboard.

Any thoughts, or ideas?  I would really appreciate some wisdom here.  I'm of the feeling that I wouldn't be much good building pedals, if I can't get a breakout box to work lol.

I can not see your pictures at work, but voltage readings would really help.

Hey dude, just wanted to say thanks for the link.  While checking voltages, I found out that the problem was in both my breadboard and jumper wires (cheap quality, all).  A few wire swaps here, a switch of breadboard there, and I got everything working!

Appreciate the help dude, thanks again!
