ever buy parts of ebay? There seem to be some deals for switches. I got some press n peel blue of ebay but thats it.

chromesphere

Yes, regularly.  I've bought all sorts of things.  Chips, components, 3pdt's, toggle switchs, germanium transisotrs, si transistors, perspex, rubber feet, wire, 3m bump on stickers, loads of stuff...

Although i have never been stung buy fake parts, others have.  If you buying expensive components, maybe do a search for the sellers name on here, as a preliminary check.  I have bought lots of chips (ca3080's, MN3007's, etc) with no trouble though.

Theres a guy on ebay that sells 300 resistors (1k, 100k, 1M or something like that) for a buck delivery :)

Happy shopping!

I'm ok getting my resistors in person for a penny a piece....its the true bypass switches that I can't find around here for a reasonable price...I saw some deals on there but had to ask first...and theres the shipping to canada issue of course.

chromesphere

Not sure about the 3pdt, i bought some a while ago and thinking bout it, i wasnt impressed with the quality.  They felt a bit "crunchy".  Tayda & Mammoth are usually where i get my switches from these days.

How bout some suggested sellers? Taiochongyi sells bulk caps and resistors and they turn out to be like a penny a piece. Any better deals out there?

Be careful with the bulk Ebay resistors. Most of the cheap metal films are really just carbon film that are painted blue. They have hair-thin leads, too. Junk.

Check out dpi4parts if you need the getting-more-obscure Jfets. I picked up 100 2n5952 and 50 J201 for a nice price.

:)

If you're not doing it for yourself, it's not DIY. ;)

I've got Jfets from dpi4parts, and their shipping charges to Europe are very reasonable compared to most US sellers.

I've been getting some nice Panasonic ECQ capacitors from auspiciouselectronics
This is a good starter set http://www.ebay.com/itm/Panasonics-Polyeste-capacitors-1nF-1UF-63v-180pcs-/261060002175
Free shipping too.

I've bought several things from dpi4parts, all good with no problems at all. Plus they ship pretty fast.

Yep another thumbs up for dpi4parts.
All the Jfets I bought there checked out to spec and were well packaged/reasonable shipping etc. Seemed spot-on to me.
The guy even refunded a few dollars to the exact shipping costs.

EDIT to say its always good to buy your components from Arons store here on the forum if you can.

Do you mean tiaochongyi?  If so I've bought lots of multilayer ceramics from them and they are really good and really cheap of course!  In fact I just got some 2.2uF so I could use them instead of electrolytics in some builds if I had the desire, and I tested about 6 or 7 just to see how they measured and they were absolutely bang on.  The reading on my meter was something like 2.21 and no more than 2.22 with all of the ones I measured and so well under 1% accuracy.

chromesphere

I cant find the seller that was selling 300 x resistors for 1 buck, maybe he realised there was no money in it...i measured the resistances of these and they were all 1%.  absolutely nothing wrong with em. Lucky i stocked up.

Another vote for dpi4parts as well. Stocked up on some J201's.  Before the become vintage :D

Just got an idea... Y don't we start a thread of the best eBay sellers and what they're good for?

I've purchased many things from sellers in the States, but it seems the real deals come from China. I've never bought from an overseas seller, what is the process like regarding customs and stuff?

Virtually never.  Only on things of high value, $50 or more maybe. Chinese sellers often don't put the true value on items, or ship them as gifts to avoid fees even on expensive items.  I get all kinds of things on ebay from chinese sellers, footswitches, CA3110 OTAs, 100x 2n3904 for $2, 300x resistors for $1.

> deals come from China. I've never bought from an overseas seller, what is the process like

It varies. I've had stuff come from China faster than from Oregon; OTOH I've had stuff take 6 weeks to come. Usually there is no tracking, or the tracking site is down. Almost always comes "through the postal system", though sometimes a private post from the warehouse to the dock, then over the sea and through US post office.

$1-$24 stuff seems to come without honest customs declaration, no hassle at this end. (Customs should really be about shiploads of goods, or high-value gems, not little stuff.)

So far everything I've ordered from China came, but I was starting to worry on the cable that took 6 weeks. I suspect in that case they were not really in stock, and they only did a run once a month. (That was not via eBay; eBay generally requires vendors to be in-stock.)
