....to use for ever which would it be? ...one fuzz, delay, chorus and so on.... and which do you wish you never wasted your time/money building???

Fuzz - Triangle Big Muff, or a Harmonic Percolator with original transistors.
Distortion - one of those FET-based Soldano or Randall clones from the Techniguitare forum.
Phase - Mu-Tron Phasor II.
Delay - Boss DM-2 or Roland Space Echo, depends on what I'm in the mood for; those tape units sound real nice but would be a monkey's butt to DIY.
Chorus - I already have an original Ross Chorus, works well enough I don't need to build one.  I did buy a handful of PT2399's a while back though; hmmmm...
That's about it...

Opamp Big Muff.  Wait, let me take that back... it was the first pedal I ever built, so I learned a ton about building pedals, but I've never actually used it for anything, even though I keep trying...
IC Cookbook Phase.  Spent days working out a PCB, a handful of cash for p-channel FETs, and it never worked. :(

Roland Space Echo....I was gonna say your a god if you built one of those!!!
I haven't built many things yet but I'd say my two faves so far are the Dual Voicing Filter...but there was some issue with it after a while....and I LOVE the Rat that I built. It could very well be my new sound!

Building definitely isn't a waste of money. The skills learned are forever valuable in the world of guitar and audio.

Distortion: Built LOADS of distortions. Suhr Riot (madbean Uproar) probably.  A pretty versatile, no BS distortion, and it just sounds the best to my ears.

Boost: Rangemaster Clone.  Lots of old school character.  SHO 2nd place.

Chorus: Built CE2 and Small Clone.  Perfer Tonepad Small Clone with mods (stereo).

Phaser: Built - Small Stone & P45.  Perfer the small stone.

Filter: Built - MXR Envelope filter and FSH1.  Perfer FSH1 hands down.

Overdrive: Built (a crap load).  Another tough one, Honeybee, LP Eternity or Flapjack
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhqLfQYAU7M

Fuzz: Built Big Muff, WHRL, Buzzaround & Fuzz Factory. Tough choice, would probably go for buzzaround or fuzz factory.

Although i dont regret building any of my 60+ guitar pedals, a couple i were dissappointed with were the King of Tone (Madbean Aristocrat i think its called) and a Klon which i could never get working right.

Sounds like fun ... as long as we're talking hypotheticals.

Comp: Orange Squeezer. (Engineer's Thumb is the runner up.)
Delay: Deluxe Memory Man ... with 4 MN3005 and with Tap Tempo somehow added. I am not yet skilled enough to make this.
Tremolo: Music PCB Tap Tempo Trem. Hard to imagine it can get any better.
Other Modulation: ROG Tri-Vibe.
Fuzz: Tough choice here, since I'm not a big fuzz user and therefore they're all roleplayers. I'd probably have to go with a Harmonic Percolator with diode clipping switch.
Overdrive: Assuming I can't use something I designed specifically to fit with my gear, Screwdriver.
Boost: If it's okay to use something I designed specifically to fit my gear, my Fallstaff. Otherwise, Rangemaster or nothing.
Distortion: pass.
Chorus: pass.

The only pedal I kind of regret building is the BYOC ESV Fuzz Kit. I'm not sure what I learned from it, and it was pretty expensive. I still haven't boxed it up, and it just sort of sits there, taunting me

hypothetical? No way this is the real deal!  :P Actually I'm being a sneaky jerk and seeing what some picky experienced people like so I can put some effort into worth while stuff. Its almost an hour for me to go to the shop I buy my stuff at so I gotta plan ahead.....and I say picky cus apparently I'm not cus I actually like my silicone fuzzface... no mods!
