help taming nasal-sounding Ge transistors

been awhile but back at it again. am breadboarding a bazz fuss (i know, that old thing?) just to use up some parts and tried a pair of AC 127s in a darlington configuration. found the sweet spot with a 1M pot to the 9v and am for the most part pleased with the tone, though it sounds kind of nasaly. cannot get it under control with in/out caps. is this just to be expected with a pair of these (never used two at a time in a circuit before) or is there something i can do to notch the mids a bit? thanks to all...

ACxxx roll off highs because of their high internal capacitance. Try another germs or silicons and compare the results.
And yes, this circuit is a bit nasal.
