so, i had some parts lying around so i built the runoffgroove/home-wrecker Odie (JFet tubescreamer) just for fun. I didn't have 100% proper parts so I subbed two 1 uF caps in for the 2.2 uF on Q2. and the gain knob is a 1M not 250k. and instead of trim-pots, I installed sockets and used a fixed resistor to get 4.5 volts. everything else is the same. however, I'm not getting a lot of volume from the pedal. unity is only reached with volume maxed and gain at 2:00. something's not operating right.

any ideas? try new volume pot?

the scheme says to set the collectors of Q1/2 to 4.5v, buy do you know anything about Q3 from reading anywhere?  Did you compare your Q3 voltages to others that worked well?

btw, you can put a 333K across the 1M gain pot to get ~ 250K, but with a different sweep
always think outside the box

Yes the drain of q1/2 are both set at 4.5v. Drain of q3 is unchecked, but has no resistor. It's straight to 9v+.

What jfet's did you use? You can check the output after each stage...? Obviously the drain voltage on the 3rd jfet is going to be 9v or whatever your power supply is delivering... You can probably use a single 1uF cap or even another 4.7uF cap in place of the 2.2uF.

Has anybody built one of these successfully and If so, how does it compare to a TS808 or TS9? I like the idea of a JFET overdrive... Does anybody out in DIY land have any other schematics for JFET overdrives?

This seems pretty simple, I may have to bread board it and hear for myself...?
Doesn't matter what you did to get it... If it sounds good, then it is good!
