Hey guys, help a noob! :)
I've got ggg's FF pcb with NPN and it's time to solder 2 silicon transistors.
I know the germanium transistors are a pain because you have to match them (Hfe,gain..?) and bias.
Is is true about silicon as well?

* btw where can I get two transistor sockets without expensive shipping?
** I've got two 2N2222/ two 2N3904.  Should I choose one over the other?

Thanks, and thanks again.

it's all personal taste, but usually, yes.  the second transistors is commonly higher gain....and many who like the vintage sound better will tell you that lower gain (< 150) silicons sound much better. the higher gain ones get mushy & compressed & harsh.

sockets can be found at the shop here

Thanks for the answer.
I've already ordered single row sockets, which seem smaller than the ones u've showed me.
Hope they'll fit.

Btw- is there a way to measure Hfe on a multimeter that doesn't have this function?

you can use the RG method for testing germanium...it'll only be very slightly off, not enough to matter
