what size enclosure do you use for most of your effects? some seem to small and some seem to big to me...so goldie locks...which one is just right? or which do you most commonly use.

JRB

usually a 1590BB or B I only use A for things like A/B switches etc.
I have used a JJ for a EQ and a E for a power supply but that's just because of the size and the amount of controls.

I've built a tube amp in an A, and a Fuzz Face in a B. Both felt right at the time, though the amp was a right squeeze.

B or BB, but I have my eyes on a J for some huge project with many controls

For me it always depends on the board and controls.

If one of the board's dimensions exceeds about 2.25 inches, I use a BB.  Less than that, a B.
If the effect has 4 control knobs or more, I use a BB [haven't encountered a need for anything larger, but I have my sights on some bigger projects].  3 control knobs or fewer, a B.
Two footswitches = BB.  One footswitch = B.

When in doubt, it's a BB.  For example, I'm currently working on an Ibanez 301 Flanger clone.  It has only 3 control knobs, and only one footswitch, but the board is long, so...BB.

I've never used an A-size enclosure, although I guess I could have, for things like the Fuzz Face or Bazz Fuss.  Circuits like that would probably work in that size box--but even in the B-size enclosures, those input/output jacks and stomp switches have a way of making things crowded.

Also, I don't have a pedalboard, so I don't think about "how many pedals I can fit in x amount of space," so there's a caveat.
Pedals built: Pulsar; Uglyface; Slow Gear; Tri-Vibe; Tremulus Lune; Blues Driver; Fender Pro Vibrato; Nyquist Aliaser; Ultra Flanger; Clone Theory; Ibanez FL-301; Echo Base; Electric Mistress (Deluxe); Boss CE-2; Gristleizer; Maestro Filter Sample/Hold.

125B almost always, 125BB is for two switches. A 1590Q is also an awesome enclosure for larger circuits.

i use the hammond 27134PSLA mostly. it's like the 1590B but the edges are rounded and it's heap cheaper :D
Blood, Sweat & Flux. Pedals made with lasers and real wires!

I'm only just now working on my second pedal, so I don't exactly speak from experience.  However, when I started laying out / designing my pedals, I decided I wanted rear mounted jacks and as narrow an enclosure as possible in order to save pedalboard space.  I couldn't see fitting two audio jacks and a DC jack on the rear panel of a 1590B or similar, and the 1590BB was just too wide (1590B with side mounted jacks would take up less space).  So I found the 1590N1, which seems perfect for my needs.  My first pedal had 5 knobs, two footswitches and 4 LEDs.  I'm fairly sure I could do 6 knobs if necessary.  And with the rear mounted jacks, it takes up less width than a 1590B with side jacks.

I like the MXR-style and the one just a little larger. I do find that most of my effects can't fit into the standard mxr size though  >:(

I agree with jkokura,

The 125B and 125BB are about 1/2" deeper than most standard boxes. This added depth gives you clearance from the footswitch which has allowed me to put larger boards into smaller boxes. I usually mount the board on the bottom cover with the component side facing up. Doing this, I was able to build an ADA flanger that fit inside of a 125BB.

I just designed a new fuzz circuit! It almost sounds a little different than the last fifty fuzz circuits I designed! ;)
