Hi everyone, I just finished building my first pedal on a breadboard. It's a Wampler Plevidrive clone. I am new at this so I have a question. It works great, but does not have nearly enough gain for my taste. The design incorporates 3-J201 transistors. Can I use higher gain transistors? If so, what type and would I have to change the values of other components in those parts of the circuit...caps, resistors? I tried changing resistor values and it did increase the gain but not enough.  I probably should post a shot of the schematic with these questions, but if anyone is familiar with this please chime in. Thank you.

hi,
what do you mean by gain? It does not have enough distortion or volume for your taste?
I remember building it last year, nice but not a keeper for me, but as much as I remember it put out enough of both.
Maybe try uploading a photo of your breadboard?

Assuming that you have it right, one think you could try is to put a large capacitor in parallel with the 1K resistors going from the source of both Q1 and Q3 (just like it is on the Q2)
might or might not sound good, but it is the easiest thing to try.

Thank you for the reply. By gain I mean distortion. The volume works fine...if any thing it's to loud.
