Hi all,

I've just installed a 1/4" mono jack in my EHX Freeze. The hole I drilled is a little off center, and so the tip connector (the long, bendy one) on the jack is touching the case (aluminum). Is this something to be worried about?

Thanks!

I believe that would cause it to ground out on the enclosure. Could be bad

it will ground your jack, effectively killing any signal.

as a kludge you could insulate that part of the box, and the back of the tip connector. i did this anyway on my first build as i didn't like all that metal looking like it might touch something.

Like posted above, the jack touching the case will kill your signal.  An easy fix is to put a couple layers of electrical tape on the case to insulate that spot.

Drill the hole larger, then you should be able to move the jack away from the case a bit, the washer should cover up the extra gap from the bigger drill.

Or get a circular file.

Or buy an enclosed plastic jack.

can't you rotate the jack so the tip is not hitting the case?
always think outside the box

I believe people have hacked in seperate wet/dry outputs so you can route the 'frozen' sound to its own amp/effects

I'm modifying it so that I can hookup a piano sustain pedal to use in place of the footswitch.
