I happen to notice that Steve at Small-Bear is selling new Silonex Photocells I hadn't seen before ... specifically, NSL-5152's and NSL-5542's - both relatively new CdS cells (issued in '99) ... he also stocks the older NSL-32 opto-couplers which work good in Mutron-III and Infinity Plus clones.

Here's an idea of their extremes in photo-cell resistance :

Rmin and Rmax

NSL-5152 -> 400ohm under 100ftc, 5 Meg @ dark
NSL-5542 -> 1k under 100ftc, 20Meg @ dark

... actually pretty good, and check this other one out :

NSL-6110 -> 170ohm under 100ftc, 1.3Meg @ dark ...

These 6110's could likely make a Vibe sound very good, and the parasitic capacitance on these things is like 5pf ... I'll try to score some.

The data comes from the following links :

http://www.silonex.com/optoelectronics/numIndex.html

http://old555.com/LPE/PDF/Vactec/vactec-index.html

These can be useful in correlating Silonex opto-coupler specs to the Vactec ones.  For example :

It seems you can roughly correlate the NSL-32SR3 specs with the VTL-5C9 ones ... 5C9 specs are recommended in the "What" Compressor ...

... and FYI, the derivative of the NSL-32's, the new NSL-32SR3, is what I used recently in a Bi-Filter Follower build, the plain NSL-32's didn't go low enough for that circuit.

Keep us informed! :D

What about the NSL-7140?
250 ohm @ 100 fct, 3 Meg @ dark

Arno van der Heijden

Or the NSL-6940:
150 ohm @ 100 fct, 1 Meg @ dark

NSL-3510:
200 ohm @ 100 fct, 20 Meg @dark

Keep in mind that they all have a tolerance of tens of percents.

Unfortunately the Silonex website doesn't say anything about the time response of these cells, even though this is a pretty important parameter.

What about the influence of the spectral response?

... I'll try to get those time specs, and some of those other cells for testing - thanx !

I did a search at Allied Electronics

http://www.alliedelec.com/search.asp

They supply the NSL-32, and NSL-32sr3 optocouplers amongst others ... and the following photocells:

NSL-3510, 5152, 5542, 6110 and 6940 ... (not the 7140)
