I've decided to remake my silicon/germanium hybrid

Collector voltages
Q1 is 0.58
Q2 is 2.87

In order to make q2 4.5v do i have to totally  replace 8.2k or can i just add 10-20k pot to it?

Ps, i like it as it is now, but i was wondering if it would sound better with 4.5-5v.

Hey man I would use the resistor and the pot. That way you can tweak from the outside. Have you checked out Madbeans Zygote? That project gave me alot of cool ideas about working with the fuzz face circuit.

looks like it's good for bass

you can add a pot in parallel to the 8.2K....remember, you need to lower the 8.2K to get 4.5V, so adding a pot in series will only give you 2.87V and lower

if you put a 100K in parallel, it'll be like starting at ~ 7.6K instead of 8.2K (so probably ~ 3V?), then you can turn it down to get 4.5-5v

of course the best thing is a 1-5K cutoff with 5-10K pot

It's really cool with guitar as well. It fattens the sound really nice. And it doesn't make your tone sound like mud.

I'll check out zygote.

Thanks for advice, will try parallel. Maybe even take 8.2k out and replace it with 20k trimpot.

#4
Replaced 8.2k with 20k trim. Tuned q2 collector voltage to 4.6v and it's a killer. Thanx

Edited schematic

Here's another problem, LED won't turn off. Millenium bypass 2

But with 2.2 k on the input and trimpot after the led. And it won't go off. Any ideas?

I took out that npn transistor ( low leakage diode ) and the thing works.

What if i place Mindbender's first stage

in front of my fuzz? Will it have too much and turn it into mud?

LucifersTrip

prob not if you change the vol pot to 100K like the Mindbender

Won't that lower the overall volume?

JebemMajke

It didn't want to work until I lowered fuzz face input cap to 2.2 uF. And even than it was farting sound. I went down to 0.1 uF and it was the same .On it's own it was a solid volume boost, with solid lows. I guess I'll have to make mindbender and leave my fuzz the way it is.

ps if I place 220pf from q1 base to q1 collector in what way will that affect the sound? Also, if i reduce the value of that 1nF cap that stands between the collectors of q1 and q2 will it take some bass off?

remember, Tonebenders have 7-8+ volts on Q3 collector

tame it and remove highs/sizzle/noise

same as above but in reverse. look at the scheme. a cap between q1 and q2 collectors = a cap between q2 collector and base = same as previous question in reverse

I've placed fetzer valve ( with bf245b ) in front of my fuzz face and it was great. Somewhere between overdrive and fuzz. Medium to high gain.
