Utilities Window

Email Preferences

Allows you to email a backup of the unrealBook preferences file.

Backup All Support Files

Will allow you to backup a zip of the support files that unrealBook creates (minus the PDF files). These are all the support files unrealBook creates minus the PDF files. You can upload to dropbox, email or use Open in… (airdrop).

Back to Dropbox

Provided you have the time and enough space on Dropbox, this will upload all your files to Dropbox. unrealBook will attempt to upload each file one by one to Dropbox. Since this can take a long time, I recommend using a computer and doing a manual backup.

Airdrop Documents to Computer – (iPad Pro only or capable iPad), allows you to Airdrop the entire contents of unrealBook to your computer. This will be a full backup of files.

Reset Preferences To Defaults – This will reset the preferences of unrealBook including the password for restricting file sharing (if you have defined one in the settings->global->functions.

Convert All Old Files To New – Only needed if you have really old files from unrealBook and have updated from a really old iPad to iPad Pro.

Latest News – unrealBook

In settings>Global>functions>More Functions there is a setting – Do not use audio in background if you don’t need unrealBook to do audio in the background set this ON. It will significantly improve your standby time when unrealBook is in the background or the iPad is locked. There is one negative: when control center is pulled down, audio will stop. Unfortunately this cannot be avoided with the current limitations in iOS.

4.41 Sets make search active false so the indexes are always present on the right of the file names in All Files.

4.40 “Missing index/Letters on right of All Files” To get back to the “old” menu, do this:

In unrealBook, see the gears icon (settings), then go to global then search.

Uncheck make search active

4.40 defaults back to old drawing methods since some iPads are super slow in doing the calculations. I have had no problems with the original iPad Pro and Gen 6 iPad. But some people have had problems with iPad Air Gen 2 and iPad Pro 3rd gen. Very strange. So old drawing methods are used but you can turn it OFF in settings>global>functions>more functions>Use old drawing routines – (Non Apple Pencil). Turning this toggle OFF will use the new drawing methods which will smooth out the drawing. In addition, there is a toggle for Do not use audio in background. If you turn this on, all audio will stop when putting unrealBook in the background. This can be useful to save battery.

4.39 fixes the IP address problem mentioned below.

11-22-22 – iOS16 doesn’t show the iPad name for the server name. Instead it shows a generic name that will not work! To get around this, you need to use the IP address of the iPad instead. Use this link to find the ip address. Once you have the IP address, use it in this format: http://IP_ADDRESS:8080/

So if the IP address is 192.168.1.27, then the master IP is: http://192.168.1.27:8080/

A version of unrealBook will display the IP string instead of the iPad name until this is resolved.

11-9-22 – There is a problem with iOS16 and Airturn. The onscreen keyboard doesn’t work sometimes. Airturn is addressing this with a modification to their library. I will need to use this new library and issue an update. Working on it. This only affects the BT series pedals. Press the power button to show the onscreen keyboard until then.

9-12-22 – unrealBook runs on iOS16.

Due to changes in Dropbox, you may need to logout and log back in if unrealBook doesn’t see any files. “

Dropbox access tokens are short lived, and will expire after a short
period of time. The exact expiry time of a token is returned by the
token endpoint (or the redirect URI in implicit grant) – but is
generally long enough for a reasonable web session.”

8-7-12 – 4.39 runs on iOS16 beta 4. This could change in the future but it is running on my copy of the beta. This version contains the latest bug fixes, newest Airturn library and a fixed set list search bar among other features.

2-16-22 – 1 finger pan bug. When unrealBook is made active, 2 finger pan is enabled in landscape mode. This is a bug. Will be fixed in the next beta due out shortly. This will be the last iOS 12 version.

1-27-22 FIXEDAirturn does not turn pages after entering and exiting drawing mode. This is as far as I know a new problem with the Airturn library and iOS15. This only happens with the keyboard airturn devices. For this reason, I highly recommend that people purchase the newer Airturn Direct line of pedals – BT-200. They will have less problems moving forward and will be less subject to breaking every time Apple releases a new operating system. WORKAROUND – Go to Songs->All Files and load a song or simply open and close the all files popup.

See the iOS15 page for more information about work-arounds and iOS15 problems.

Set List Options

Stay In Files Not In Set List – When on, this will treat any files opened from the Songs Menu as a single file even when you are in a set list. This will lock you on to the current song so that even if you turn past the last page, you will still stay in the current document. To go back to the set list, use the previous or next buttons on the set list toolbar or choose a song from the set list popup. This will prevent you from making a mistake and turning out of a song you have loaded on the spur of the moment.

Add songs to Set List Temporarily– experimental – any files chosen will add to the current set list temporarily so you can go back to them easily in the middle of performance. This is similar to Stay In Files Not In Set List but not as “clean” as any songs you open will be inserted in the set list temporarily and will appear in the set list song popup.

Disable Set List Options – Turn this on to disable the swipe left options in the set list song popup (such as colors etc..)

Undefined Setlist Bookmarks As one Page –If a bookmark number of pages is not defined, treat it as a one page bookmark in set lists.

Don’t Load First Song in Set List – Primarily used for the master iPad. You can browse set lists and load them, but no commands are sent to the slaves until you choose a song from the set list.

Long press highlight name in set list popup – If this is on, then a long press on a name in the set list popup will make the title red. Useful for marking certain titles.

Numbers in set list editor – will prepend numbers in front of the entries in the set list editor.

Version 4.24 Important change

There is an important change from version 4.24 on. In the past, if you were in a set list and loaded a new file from the Songs menu, if you turned past the last page, you would be thrown back into the set list. If you didn’t want this, you would have to reload the file while playing and that was not good. You could turn on add songs to set list temporarily which would fix this, but you would end up with the song in the set list songs popup.

The new behavior is that if you load a song from the Songs menu, you can turn back and forth within that song freely, but when you hit the last page, it will stop turning and not go into the set list. This is to prevent you from losing your place in the set list. To go to the next song in the set list, press the set list -> next song button or choose another song from the set list popup.

It is assumed that if you in the spur of the moment load a song right in the middle of the set list, that you probably just want to play that song at the moment.

Manual backups with iFunbox

There is another easy way to get a manual backup besides the great app imazing. iFunbox is another easy and free app that will do a complete backup of your iPad. Fortunately it’s easy to use and fast.

Connect your iPad and run iFunbox, then choose unrealBook under App File Sharing to access your files.

Simply, connect your iPad to your Mac or PC, then run iFunbox and use the disclosure triangles on the left to access App File Sharing and unrealBook. The right side will show all of your files. Command-a will select all files and command-click will select or deselect single files. Use the Copy To Mac button to copy all the selected files to the Mac. That’s it! Now you have a manual backup of all of your files. (Note: do not copy the inbox when copying the files back to the iPad or another iPad – just skip that folder).
