As someone recently pointed out to me, Phillip's Fuzzcentral Foxx schem
http://fuzzcentral.tripod.com/foxx.html and GGG's
http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/diagrams/ftmsc.gif   have the 10uf electros off the bases of Q3 and 4 pointing in opposite directions.
I built the Fuzzcentral version and gave it a quick test run.... haven't had time to investigate further. But I must say, it sounded great.
Any ideas?

Okay, Q3 should have the plus to the right.  Definitely.  The DC voltage on the left side is 0 volts (just resistors pulling it to ground) while the right side is biased at somewhere over a volt.

For Q4 it is a trickier call but again I would have the cap with positive facing right.  The diodes make it somewhat float on the left, but the right is again biased somewhere north of a volt.

Makes good sense.
Looks like I'll have to do some updating..
Thanks

i just built my fOXX Tone Machine with (Q1-Q3) 2N697  and 2N3053 in Q4
Gains are ~75 in Q1-Q3 and 106 on the 2N3053 (Q4) and it sounds 100% better than with 2N3904's (as i hold as a shitty Tranny)

by the way: i bought 50 pieces of 2N3904, from Banzai, and meassured them and they all was in range of 158-164 in gain - all of them! :(  so i just tested with my old ones 130-140 in gain - not the recomended 110-120.

volume is shit hard and really dist like (if set) old Black Sabbath sound and can be set to very bassy sound too.
couldn't test (don't wanna disturb) it with amp so i ran it through the phones jack on amp (clean). i think it will sound better through the real speaker.

sorry for bad english

Any more on the trannies used here? Now I use 2N5088's but I want to try out something different. I will try some 2N3904's and the above named  2N697  and 2N3053's; how do they sound and are there any more advised?
Am learning something new every day here

Anything with an HFE of around 120 will get you in the zone.
Taste test!

I love the sound of germaniums in mine.  I've built two this way using reclaimed Japanese transistors.
